a blessing for when you get your first vaccine

Oh God, one tiny syringe holds so much hope and relief.

God after such a long year, I am so blessed and grateful. Show me what to do with all this joy.

God have mercy
Christ have mercy
Spirit have mercy

For You, O LORD, light my lamp; my God lights up my darkness. Psalm 18:28

O God, I’m feeling hilariously socially inappropriate,
like I want to shout to the next person in the line-up for vaccines and say,
HEY is this your first pandemic?
(see what I mean.)

It’s surreal, the difference this makes.
now after so much sustained fear and suffering,
help has come, and I’m elated.

And so grateful. God I’m on my knees now, and there are tears.
I want to stay in this relief and joy,
but I’ve seen the doctors and nurses who knelt in prayer
at the bedsides of their sickest patients
because there was nothing more they could do.

I’ve despaired over those who are unwilling or unable to get immunized.
And now, I’m blessed to turn all this gratitude into prayer,
for everyone who doesn’t get it, can’t get it, won’t get it.

I’m so grateful as I walk away.
because somebody bottled it,
and shared it with me.

Blessed are all of us, so grateful
that it’s time to invent a fun dance
for private kitchen celebrations only.

You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Psalm 23:5

God have mercy
Christ have mercy
Spirit have mercy

Savor it, all that joy. And with great care, plan for the sweet reunion you’ve longed for.

See, I am doing a new thing. Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:19
