a blessing for when the unthinkable happens

God, I am blindsided

What I thought was impossible, has shaken me to the core.

My God, help me make sense of it somehow

to know what to feel,

what to do.

God have mercy. Christ have mercy. Spirit have mercy.

Blessed are we who ask

and wait, and ask again.

Blessed are we who let reality in

though the body shudders.

God, you are the home where truth is strong

and beauty can live.

We need a map to get there

and a star to point the way.

Along the way show us how to do a little good

as naturally as if we were already at home,

just coming downstairs.

My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me (John 10:27-28)
