a blessing for when they knew and didn’t tell us

O God, they knew months before how lethal this virus could be, but didn’t tell us.
their lies made us scramble for our safety and survival.

O God, give us courage and strength and leadership that will steer us through this calamity.

God have mercy.
Christ have mercy.
Spirit have mercy.

Blessed are we who say God,
it’s hard to pray for miracles
when we shouldn’t have needed this many.

Blessed are we who lament loudly
that the truth was hidden from us,
downplayed, stalled, and politicized

Blessed are we who weep for the lost chances.
and let the sadness of it sink in that if we had known,
we might have chosen differently,
and given things, places, and people
the goodbyes they deserve.

We could have planned better.
we could have used fact to guide decisions,
foresee dangers, and avoid at least some suffering.

But instead
the fragile were sacrificed on the altar of the economy

Blessed are we who pray, God send us the miracles we need most,
the vaccines that will stabilize this world
the good counsel that can guide its development and distribution,
the wise leadership that can renew our trust
and the community and comfort we need for our sad hearts.

“Where there is no guidance, a nation falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.”
Proverbs 11:14

God have mercy.
Christ have mercy.
Spirit have mercy.

Place your hand on your heart. Gather courage. And vote.
